Story of our School

Pineview Public School is a bustling rural school surrounded by pine trees and located in Athens, Ontario (population of approximately 3,100 people).  Our current school was built in 1968.  Prior to the construction of the new school, area students attended Farmersville School which was built in 1859. Farmersville, the town, was renamed to Athens in 1888 in honour of Athens, Greece, because it was an educational centre with grammar school, a model school for teacher training, and a high school

Our modern student enrolment generally ranges from 215-220 students, with over 20 staff members.  Our school has Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6 and offers French Immersion as well as the Regular program.  Our student population draws from a wide variety of areas including Charleston Lake, Temperance Lake, Lake Eloida, Frankville, Addison, New Dublin, Plum Hollow and Soperton. Our population includes families from several townships including Athens, Elizabethtown-Kitley, Front of Yonge and Leeds and the Thousand Islands.

At Pineview, we have 10 classrooms, a gymnasium, a beautiful courtyard, an outdoor learning environment, two play structures and a variety of play equipment.  We have a sensory room, a music room, and a learning commons which includes a variety of resource materials, reading material and technology.  Each of our classrooms are equipped with SMARTBoard technology, laptops and iPads to complement student learning in the 21st Century.

At Pineview, we recognize the importance of student wellness and character education.  We have regular ‘Pineview Proud’ assemblies where our school community comes together to celebrate great character and to learn about ways we can be our best self.  Each day a student could be recognize for acts of great character by identifying and sharing stories with our educators.

We offer many exciting opportunities for our students and families.  Some of these include: a variety of sports teams (soccer, volleyball, basketball, hockey, newcomb ball, baseball, cross-country, track and field), class field trips, art and music  presentations, spirit days, special concerts and celebrations, ‘Grandparents’ Day’, charity work, community walks, Environment Club.

Our students enjoying many of our community partnerships throughout the year.  We are excited to include the following organizations as our learning partners:  Impact Zone, Kids Club, Athens Public Library, Athens Museum, Athens Minor Soccer and Softball, Athens Figure Skating Club, Athens Minor Hockey, Athens Lions Club, Healthy Kids Community Challenge and the many Athens businesses who support us in so many ways.
